Being a Cross-strait Exchange Platform from the perspective of Chinese culture.
The Sheen, Chuen-Chi Cultural & Educational Foundation

Reason for Establishment of the Foundation

The late Founder, Mr. Sheen, Chuen-Chi was born in Shao-An, Fujian Province. He had been engaged in Education work originally and then joined the army after the Anti-Japanese War broke out. Later he was assigned to Taiwan after Taiwan had been recovered. Since Mr. Sheen, Chuen-Chi had undergone much hardship in his childhood and had made a successful career after having been demobilized; he established the Foundation in 1987 in order to repay his debt to society. After he passed away, unfortunately, his son Mr. Sheen Ching-Jing upheld his wish and persisted in the development of the Foundation and became the pioneer in the field of non-profit organization of cross-strait relations in Taiwan. The Foundation has sponsored and supported the shooting of the television series of “Eight thousand miles of Clouds and Moon” in its early stage, which has always evoked a strong cross-strait response in Chinese communities of all over the world. It opened a window for Mainland China and laid the foundation for various subsequent exchange activities.

Praised as the " Outstanding Private Group dedicated to Cross-strait Activities" by Mainland Affairs Council, Executive Yuan as the only group that had been awarded with the honor eight times in the whole of Taiwan.

The Foundation has organized and participated in more than 150 major events and activities over the years, which range from visual and performance arts, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, to literature and community culture and cultural industry etc. and have won many recognitions and respect from cross-strait administrative and non-governmental agencies. The Foundation has been awarded with the golden, silver and bronze awards of “Wenxin Award” successively, which were introduced by the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan and praised as the “Outstanding Private Group dedicated to Cross-strait Activities” by the Mainland Affairs Council, Executive Yuan as the only group that had been awarded with the honor eight times in the whole of Taiwan.

The Foundation is famous for its sincerity, profession and precision in planning and also the arrangement of exchange events in the cultural circle across the strait. Apart from special events, all events and activities hosted by the Foundation are provided with serial integrated planning based on their topics and promoted the long-term sustainable purpose of accumulation of exchanging outcome and expansion of exchanging effect. In recent years, the active series include the “Cross-strait City (Province) Festival”, “Cross-strait Masters of Arts”, “Chinese Classical Literature”, “Cross-strait Large-scale Cultural Industries Fair”, “Cross-strait Large-scale intangible Cultural Heritage”, “Cross-strait Cultural Heritage Conservation Forum”, “Cross-strait Seminars and Exchanges of Cultural Professionals”, “Cross-strait Cultural Exchange of Teenagers”, “Cross-strait Exchanges of Art and Museum Professionals”, “Cross-strait Exchanges of Administrative Professionals” and “Cross-strait Exchanges of Professionals of Cultural Industry” etc.. All relevant particular activities were designed and organized through cross-strait cooperation with an excellent reputation.

In addition, the Foundation hosted the Event of “One Exhibition and Five Performances” to participate in the major cultural events relevant to the Beijing Olympic Games and held exhibitions in the first-class exhibition halls such as the National Grand Theater and the National Art Museum of China in order to respond to the invitation of the China Friendship Association of Cultural Circles of China (Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China) in 2008. In 2009, after accepting the commission of the Taipei Organising Committee of the 21st Summer Deaflympics, our Foundation arranged the Dynamic Yunnan Troupe in Mainland China to perform the show of “Dynamic Yunnan” (lead by the famous dancer Yang Li-Ping) in the Event of the Deaflympics Month of the Arts, Taipei and organized the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe to participate in the performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 21st Summer Deaflympics, Taipei with the dance of “Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva” (lead by the famous dancer Tai Li-Hua). In 2011, our Foundation gave full cooperation to relevant cross-strait cultural agencies in order to hold the “Cross-Strait Cultural Forum” in Taipei in which Emile Sheng Chih-Jen, the Minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan, R.O.C.(Taiwan) and Cai Wu, the Minister of Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China were invited to deliver speeches in civil status for the first time. As this was the first important moment that persons in charge of the Ministry of Culture across the strait could gather together and lecture on the same stage since cross-strait contacts had been resumed for more than twenty years; the event caught the attention of many domestic and foreign media and agencies. The forum concluded many common opinions and orientated subsequent cross-strait cultural exchanges. These were all very important cross-strait cultural exchange events in recent years and it was a great honor for our Foundation to have the opportunity to be part of them.

Continuous cross-strait dialogue and exchanges, cumulative consensus and enhancement of cooperation are the critical way to strengthen understanding and mutual trust between Taiwan and Mainland China. It is also a historical duty and mutual responsibility of the cultural circle of both sides in order to face the future proactively and promote Chinese culture. Look into the future, we will strengthen the cross-strait communication and cooperation as our original intention, and establish a platform for closer talks based on our target and tenet with the utmost sincerity and endeavor. It is expected that the cross-strait relationship can develop with stability so as to create a beautiful future finally through launches of various programs and projects as well as the effort of seeking well-being for people across the Taiwan Strait.
